unit 24: writing for television and film.

Censorship:
A prevention of images that are harmful, blasphemous or objectionable. Certain institutions have the legal right to edit or pixelate images that may be harmful to the viewer. However, they must attain the permission of the creator of the image to do so.
Think “The Human Centipede 2” – it was banned by the BBFC in the UK, until they got the right to edit 2 minutes worth of original footage and distribute it.

Libel:
Saying something that cannot be backed up by evidence, which causes defamation of character. It is a heavy legal issue, and many celebrities sue for libel. Kate Winslet always sues (images of her have been photoshopped or airbrush, Daily Mail lied about her exercise regime and she got £25,000 from the newspaper and an apology)

Royalty Payments:
When an artist or creator has created a piece of work, everytime that work is shown or played (a TV programme, a song), a payment must be sent to them by the company that chooses to play/use it. Sometimes DVDs of TV shows have to be edited as they don’t have enough money or the permission to pay for certain material.

Agent representation:
Some one who represents you to another company or producer to get you work, they will take a percentage of your income as payment for anything they get you.

Unit 24: For those who don't know Celtx..

For Those who don't know what Celtx is, its a program you use to help create scripts. It recognises scene headings, characters, dialogue etc. and puts everything into the correct format for you. It remembers character names so you dont have to keep on typing the same name, and best of all, it's free.
So heres a quick crash coarse on how to use Celtx...

First off, if you havent already, you need to go to http://www.celtx.com/ and click on the big Green download button. Once its downloaded and you click on the icon, a window will come up welcoming you to Celtx and asking you what project template you want, for the purpose of this tutorial, we will be using Film.

Once you click on film you can start writing straight away, it instantly starts with a scene header, then goes straight to action so you can right what the audience is seeing (ofcoarse if your on Celtx to begin with you already know what all this means).

Personally I rely on dialogue to tell the story, to get a character up simply click on the box that would now say action and scroll down to character, after you have a name when you press enter it should turn straight to a dialogue option, after youve written the dialogue if you press enter again it will take you back to a character option and you can keep a conversation going quite fluently.

In the left hand corner of the screen there is a save button and a print button, to save or print... I dont really know how anything else works just yet... this is the worst tutorial ever..
